History of the Credit Union in Choiceland

The Choiceland Credit Union officially opened in 1943, serving as a vital financial hub for the local agricultural communit. Over more than 80 years, the branch underwent significant structural shifts, moving from an independent local co-operative into broader regional and provincial banking networks.

Chronological History

1943 (Founding): The Choiceland Credit Union was established during a period of rapid development for the town's commercial and agricultural sector. It emerged alongside other cornerstone services, like the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Elevator, to provide accessible credit and financial services to local farmers and families.

Transition to Diamond North: To leverage greater financial stability and expand member services, the Choiceland branch eventually amalgamated with regional entities to become part of the Diamond North Credit Union. Under this structure, it operated as one of several northern service locations alongside branches in Nipawin, White Fox, and Carrot River.

2025 (Prosperity Credit Union Merger): On January 1, 2025, Diamond North merged with Cypress and Prairie Centre Credit Unions to form a massive new entity called Prosperity Credit Union. As a result, the financial institution operating in Choiceland today serves the community under the Prosperity Credit Union banner.
