Patricia Kowtek - Town Councillor 

Kowtek is an elected Town Councillor for the Town of Choiceland. Notably, she has engaged with community initiatives such as exploring options to secure and establish weekly healthcare services within Choiceland. Outside of public office, Kowtek is very well-known not only locally but across Northern Saskatchewan,Trish owns and operates with her husband Earl, Trish's Signs and Designs, working with many first nations. 

Trish owns and operates with her Husband Earl, Trish's Signs and Designs, an extremely unique gift shop located on Railway Avenue in downtown Choiceland Her uncanny creativity paired with her creative spark makes her shop a hit for custom signs, apparel, gifts, local home made items, crafts, farm fresh eggs, oh, and Ice Cream! She also owns and operates the Cozy Cup Cafe, located inside Trish's Signs and Designs on Railway avenue in Choiceland.

Community Initiatives & Roles: 

• Choiceland Welcome Wagon: Kowtek kick started and leads the local Welcome Wagon initiative. New residents can contact her at 306-812-7726 or visit the Town Office to pick up a welcome bag filled with local information, business schedules, and gift items from local businesses in town.

As a small-town municipal body, the Choiceland Town Council operates as a single collective unit to pass bylaws and manage infrastructure, meaning individual councillors do not typically pass independent legislation. Instead, Patricia Kowtek's achievements are tied to the collaborative milestones and community initiatives she leads alongside the Choiceland town council.

Key Council & Community Accomplishments

• Leading the Welcome Wagon Initiative: One of her most visible personal contributions is organizing and maintaining the local Welcome Wagon. She coordinates with the Town Office to design and distribute welcome bags to new residents, helping integrate newcomers and promote local businesses.  Bags are printed locally in her shop in Choiceland. 

• Maintaining "Drama-Free" Civic Stability: The current council has been publicly commended by local rate-payers for providing a highly stable, low-conflict administrative environment. This unified governance is highly valued by the community relative to the political friction seen in neighboring rural municipalities. The residents of Choiceland are very grateful. 

• Expanding Local Healthcare Access: She is part of the current council actively working to bring a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to the Town of Choiceland. This collaborative initiative aims to secure basic primary healthcare assessments, immunizations, and minor injury treatments locally once a week.

• Modernizing Town Bylaws & Infrastructure: As an active voting member of the five-person council, she has helped oversee essential updates to local infrastructure and town governance. This includes managing town services like the local transfer station schedules, municipal property upkeeps, and moving a new comprehensive Zoning Bylaw through the Provincial Ministry approval process.
